Compare a K-beauty purchase by what you will actually use, the quantity of that product and the total you will pay. A mini, a large bottle and a value set solve different shopping problems. The biggest quantity or longest list of extras does not automatically make the best purchase for your trip.

This guide helps visitors compare packages in Korean cosmetics stores without relying on a live price list. For the rest of your preparation, see our first K-beauty shopping trip checklist.

Start with the job the purchase needs to do

Are you replacing an exact product you already use, trying something unfamiliar, or looking for a compact item to carry home? Write down that purpose before comparing offers. An established favourite may justify a different quantity from a product you have never used.

Also decide your maximum total spend. A lower price per millilitre can still require more money than you planned to spend. Keep those two questions separate: whether a package is cheaper for the same amount, and whether you want that much product at all.

Make an inventory of the actual contents

For every option, note the full product name, number of containers and net amount in each. Read the package or shelf information rather than estimating from the box. Separate accessories and different formulas from extra quantities of the product you wanted.

As an illustration of size labels, innisfree's official US Green Tea cream page lists 30 mL, 50 mL and 80 mL options. This is a label-reading example, not confirmation that those options are in a Korean branch or that products across markets are identical. Use the actual Korean package for your comparison.

Illustrative package Count for a like-for-like comparison
One 50 mL container of Product A 50 mL of Product A.
Two 30 mL containers of the same Product A 60 mL of Product A, split between two containers.
50 mL of Product A plus 10 mL of Product B 50 mL of A and a different product. Do not call it 60 mL of A.
Product A with a pouch or applicator The stated quantity of A; consider the accessory separately.

These are invented package examples for explaining the calculation, not real offers. They deliberately leave prices blank so you can use the actual checkout amounts in the store.

Use unit cost only after matching the product

For the same product measured in the same units, divide the total price by the total net amount. For example, compare the price of the first illustrative option divided by 50 with the price of the second divided by 60. The lower result is the lower cost per mL for that comparison.

Do not compare grams with millilitres as if they were interchangeable, or combine several different formulas into one meaningful unit price. A bundle containing a cleanser and cream does not become equivalent to a larger jar of cream just because the numbers add up.

Give extras a separate decision

Ask yourself whether you would choose the extra if it were offered on its own. If the answer is no, you can still buy the set, but do not let an unwanted item decide the comparison. List the main product's quantity, the additional cash required and the useful extras separately.

For a promotion with a spending threshold, calculate the total basket before adding another item. Ask staff to confirm which discount applies to your purchase. Do not count a conditional offer, membership price or promised extra until the seller confirms that you qualify for it.

Check the amount against the way you will travel

Consider baggage space, packaging weight and whether separate small containers are more convenient for your trip. Check the operating airline and airport rules before assuming that a travel-size name establishes cabin eligibility. A compact box can contain more than one liquid container.

Read the date and storage information on the item you are considering. Our Korean cosmetic-label guide explains the date markings; this comparison does not predict how long a product will last you or how it will perform.

Make the checkout choice explicit

  1. Match the exact product and measurement units.
  2. Count containers and useful net contents.
  3. Confirm the total payable amount and applicable conditions.
  4. Compare unit cost where the products are genuinely comparable.
  5. Choose a quantity, budget and package that fit your own plan.
