For a first beauty-shopping trip in South Korea, choose a store by the question you need to answer. Do you want to compare several brands, find one exact product, explore a brand destination or visit a particular counter? Those are different tasks, and a useful shopping route does not need every store type.
This guide focuses on planning a manageable visit, with Seoul examples and official links to check before you go. It is not a ranking of the cheapest shops or a promise that a branch has a particular product today.
Start with the kind of visit you want
| Your main task | Type to investigate | Check before travelling |
| Compare different brands in one visit | A multi-brand beauty store | Branch location and whether your brands are listed |
| Ask about one exact brand or product | A brand store or authorised retailer | Full product name and current retail location |
| Explore a brand destination or book an experience | A flagship or experience-focused venue | What is offered, booking rules and opening information |
| Find a particular department-store counter | A department store | Branch, building and current brand directory |

Multi-brand stores: useful for a comparison visit
Olive Young is one option to investigate when your list contains several brands. Its official business page describes its Korean stores and online channels. The Korea Tourism Organization also lists beauty-shopping stops in its Myeong-dong district guide, including Olive Young's Myeongdong Town branch.
Use those pages to identify a branch, then check the current store information through the retailer. Do not assume a large flagship is the best choice for every itinerary. A branch close to where you are staying may fit a short replacement-shopping trip; a destination store may make more sense if browsing is part of the day's plan.
Take a full product name or photograph with you. If the item is unavailable, decide whether you want an alternative or prefer to leave it on your list. A product with similar packaging is not automatically the same formula, size or finish.
Brand destinations: choose them for a specific reason
A brand-focused visit can help when you want to explore that company's range or investigate a service. Amorepacific's official flagship directory introduces destinations including Amore Seongsu and the House of Sulwhasoo Bukchon. These are examples of different brand experiences, not a recommendation that every visitor should buy from those brands.
The official Amore Seongsu page describes its spaces and links to availability for particular programmes. Read the exact offering before planning your visit. Check whether you are booking a service, browsing products or buying an item; those actions may have different arrangements.
For an ordinary purchase, an authorised retailer may be more convenient than a brand destination. Beauty of Joseon's official retailer list, for example, identifies Korean retail locations alongside its other channels. Use the brand's list for that brand only. A list entry does not reserve stock or establish every service at the store.
Department stores: look up the branch and counter
For department-store shopping, start with a named branch and its current directory. The official Lotte Department Store website has branch information and a language selector. Shinsegae's official website also provides store information and links to its English visitor site. Follow the current directory rather than relying on an old screenshot of a floor.
Be specific when searching: the department store, its shopping mall and a duty-free operation may have different counters or purchase arrangements. Confirm the business you are entering, where you pay and how you receive the goods. “In the same complex” does not mean the services or return rules are identical.
If a particular shade or product is the reason for the journey, ask about that item before making a long detour. The fact that a brand has a counter does not establish which products or sizes are available.
Build one small route
Pick an area that fits your accommodation or sightseeing plans. Save the store's Korean name, address and a map pin. Add one backup stop in the same area, then leave space for comparing products, checkout and carrying bags afterward. This route method is our editorial suggestion, not a measured queue-time prediction.
At each stop, compare the same product and quantity. Write down a price with its conditions, rather than remembering a percentage on a sign. Ask whether a promotion requires membership, an app, a particular payment method or a minimum purchase. Choose based on the offer available to you at that visit.

Ask these questions before paying
- Is this the exact product, shade, size and number of units on my list?
- What is included in the set, and what does the displayed price require?
- Can you show me the use-by date or period-after-opening information?
- What are this purchase's return or exchange conditions?
- If a tax refund is available, what documents and next steps apply?
Use our label-reading guide for unfamiliar Korean fields. Keep the receipt and product details so you can identify the purchase if you need help later.
Separate tax arrangements from store choice
Buying cosmetics in Korea does not automatically mean buying duty-free. VISITKOREA explains the different tourist shopping arrangements. Check the current eligibility and procedure for your purchase. The Korea Customs Service also explains export confirmation and documents; do not open refund-intended goods without checking the conditions.
For a complete preparation and packing list, start with our first K-beauty shopping checklist. The goal is a trip that fits your needs, rather than visiting the largest possible number of stores.
