THE BEAUTYITEM LOOK EDIT / 01

A Jennie makeup look starts with a quiet balance: softly defined eyes, colour close to the cheeks and a rose lip that catches the light. The everyday version can be just as considered. Keep the strongest detail small, then give the rest of the face room to breathe.

In these July 2024 event photographs, the eye definition looks soft and the pink-rose lips have a visible sheen. This tutorial is Beautyitem's interpretation of that balance. The photographs do not identify the products used, so the choices below focus on placement, texture and the finish you want.

Read the finish, then choose the formula

Before opening a shopping tab, pick three details to carry into your own routine. For this edit, they are a light-looking base, a brown-toned eye and a rose lip. That short brief makes it easier to judge the makeup in daylight instead of chasing every detail in one photograph.

Lighting changes how sheen and colour appear. Use the reference for the relationship between features, then check the result in your usual mirror. Your preferred depth of colour, natural lip pigment and available lid space should help decide the final version.

A base with a little restraint

Start with your usual skincare and let its surface settle before adding foundation. Load a little product onto a clean puff and press it over one area at a time. Check what that first pass actually covers before picking up more. Use the remaining product on the puff around the edges of the face.

As one application reference, HERA's Black Cushion directions describe using a puff to dab foundation gently after skincare. The useful part for this look is the controlled pressing motion. Work with the foundation that suits your skin and shade; a celebrity reference cannot select that match for you.

If you want more coverage in one spot, add it there with a small brush or the edge of the puff. Leave areas you already like alone. Powder selectively where you prefer less shine, keeping the amount small enough that the finish still feels like one face rather than several separate layers.

Soft eyes, precise placement

Choose a neutral shadow that sits comfortably beside your skin tone. Sweep on a light wash, then deepen the outer part of the upper lash line with a slightly darker brown. Keep the brush movement close to the lashes at first; you can decide how much of that depth should travel onto the lid.

The Bobbi Brown eye-shadow guide describes building a skin-toned base with deeper shades and using dark shadow for definition. Here, use a small brush to soften the upper edge while preserving a little depth at the lash line. Step back from the mirror between passes.

For liner, connect short marks along the upper lashes before deciding whether to extend the outer corner. Keep your eyes comfortably open when checking the shape. A short extension may give you all the definition you want. Finish with the mascara amount you enjoy rather than assuming a dramatic lash is essential.

Rose lips, your finish

Find a rose shade by looking at it on your lips, not only in the tube. A muted pink may read almost nude on one person and noticeably bright on another. Try a sheer layer first, let the colour settle, then decide whether to add more depth at the centre.

For a softer everyday edge, MAC's Powder Kiss application guidance suggests placing colour centrally and blending outward with a brush. Treat that as a technique option. Use a clean lip brush to distribute a small amount, then check that the corners are even.

The photographed lips have shine. To bring that quality into your version, add a little clear or compatible rose gloss after the colour. For a quieter finish, leave the colour softly blotted. The same shade can produce a different mood simply through how much product and reflection you keep.

Build a small, useful palette

Choose by role before brand. The aim is a group of textures that work together on you, with no requirement to buy an entire matching range.

The detail What to look for Check before buying
Light-looking base A shade and coverage level you can build selectively The exact formula, shade code and refill compatibility
Soft eye definition A workable neutral and a deeper lash-line shade How the colours look together on your skin
Rose lip A colour that works with your natural lip pigment The dried-down colour and preferred shine level
Blended edges A clean puff and a small brush with a controllable shape Whether your existing tools already do the job

Make it work beyond the reference

Keep cheek colour low in intensity while deciding on the eyes and lips. A muted rose or peach-rose can connect the palette; try whichever looks more at home beside your chosen lip. Add a small amount, blend the perimeter and look at the whole face before adding another layer.

Our Korean beauty-tools guide helps separate the jobs of puffs and brushes. If a saved product photograph is guiding your purchase, use our names, shades and refills checklist to identify the actual item. A similar black compact or pink tube is only a starting point.

The questions worth asking

Do I need the exact products Jennie used?

No exact product list is established by these photographs. Begin with the finish and placement, then choose products you can match and use comfortably.

Does soft makeup have to be pale?

No. Softness can come from a blended edge and controlled placement. Choose enough depth for the colour to read clearly on your complexion.

What should I change for a quick daytime version?

Keep one eye shadow, a little upper-lash definition and your rose lip. Reduce the number of layers before reducing everything to a colour that disappears.
